NEW VARIETY INTRODUCTION, DEMONSTRATION AND COMMERCIALIZATION

Developing and introducing new and high value crop varieties is essential for sustainable agriculture to improve the income of farmers and meet the constantly changing demands and life style of the Chinese as well as the global population.

As living standards rise, consumer preferences is shifting toward premium, high-quality agricultural products.  New varieties allow local farmers to grow highly sought-after, premium crops, shifting the region away from low value basic commodity crops and boosting farmers' incomes

New variety introduction should focus on those that drive higher yields, boost farm profitability, reduce farm inputs and protect food security against climate change and evolving pests.

The primary purpose of this project is aimed at introducing new, high value and unique crop varieties from around the world that are suitable for farming in greenhouses as well as open field in NE China.

A demonstration farm and a training center should be set up to trial, demonstrate and commercialize varieties that showed promise.
