Dalian is China's second largest seaport after Shanghai. It is a major industrial and ship building centre and a vital gateway to the country's northeastern industries. It has China's largest shipyard, petrochemical factory and diesel locomotive works. It produces 50% of China's vessels and diesel locomotives. Dalian is also well-known for fruit production.
